Resources for Coos County meetings

Last updated on March 5, 2023

I wanted to provide some resources regarding Coos County meetings in a central location, particularly since the people in charge of this at the county seem to be making it as hard as possible to find out this information.

I think common sense says that when trying to find out a time and location of a county meeting, you would naturally go to the county’s own website. This is partially true with Coos County. There is a calendar on their website that lists the majority of meetings. It can be found here:

https://www.co.coos.or.us/calendar

You might notice that the Board of Commissioners meetings are on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 8:30am. One thing not mentioned is that 8:30am is the time for the Executive Session. The public part of the meeting is not until 9:30am. Anyone who wants to speak during the public comment period should arrive before 9:30am and put their name on the clipboard. Be careful though, because there are two clipboards. One is just for attendance, the other is to be able to speak. They have been very lenient with this so far, but who knows in the future.

Unfortunately, we ran into an issue with the calendar at the 8/17 meeting. Due to certain events, the meeting was cut short and the crowd was informed it would be rescheduled at a later time. We expected it would be rescheduled for the next day but that was not actually stated. I made sure to refresh the calendar on the county website multiple times that day so I did not miss the posting.

NOTE: Coos County regulations require meetings to be publicly posted at least 24 hours ahead of time, except in cases of an emergency meeting.

Later that night, after not seeing the rescheduled meeting posted, I happened to check a local news site (KCBY.com) to see if they had written anything about what happened at the first half of the meeting. To my surprise, their article mentioned that the meeting had been rescheduled for the next day. I immediately checked the calendar on the county website, but the new meeting was still not listed. I spoke to a friend about this and he informed me that there was actually an email list for meeting notifications. There is absolutely no mention of this email list on the county website.

Anyone wishing to be added to this email list should contact:

The next resource for Coos County meetings are the recorded videos of those meetings. These are posted in two different locations:

https://coosmediacenter.viebit.com/

I don’t know the reasons for having two different video resources, but I’ve been told that most of the meetings are actually recorded by a person from PEG Broadcast Service. Also, some meetings end up posted at one of those links but not the other. You’ll have to check both.

If you’re reading this soon after my posting, you may notice that the video for the first half of the 8/17/2021 meeting is not available in either location. I contacted the Coos County BoC Office a couple days ago and was told their I.T. department was having technical issues getting it uploaded. They said it would be posted “eventually”. Not too reassuring as far as I’m concerned.

Additionally, I will try to post all Coos County BoC meetings to the calendar here on Dailyresister.com.
